ARTARMON VILLAGE INC. UPDATE FEBRUARY 2016 by Nick Logan

Dear Friends of Artarmon, It has been an intense few months for Artarmon Village Inc (AVI) with the announcement of plans to bury a Sydney Metro power supply under Hampden Rd in 2016. AVI met with Sydney Metro in December to discuss two alternative options; a) cabling Hampden Rd at night, or b) cabling Hampden Lane. Both options have small merits, far outweighed by the difficulties and disruption they would pose.

Artarmon Village Inc’s position is still that Sydney Metro could, and should, find a cheaper, easier, faster and less disruptive option, that does not include digging a trench along our main road.

At the moment Transport for NSW is in the process of writing a submissions report that is due to be finished in early March. Once the report has been completed they expect to meet again with council and other stakeholders. AVI has been delighted by the support of Artarmon Progress Association, the council and the community in mobilising opposition to this destructive project.
