Artarmon Village Inc is your local shopping precinct’s chamber of commerce, representing retailers and businesses. We provide a voice to Willoughby City Council and other authorities on matters to enable your shops to provide even better services, products and facilities.
Popular Artarmon businesswoman Mrs Kyoko Hayward (Anegawa san) died on 15 April 2021. Mrs Hayward was the proprietor of Anegawa Japanese Grocery Store on the corner of Wilkes Avenue and Elizabeth Street. Her welcoming nature and her popularity are evidenced by the huge number of tribute flowers left outside the shop after she died. Artarmon Village Inc extends the sympathy of the local business community to her sons Ron and Ben and their families.
Mowbray Family Practice, on the corner of Elizabeth Street and Mowbray Road, has delivered long-term medical care for more than 40 years, but sadly it will be closing at the end of its lease. Extensive attempts to find doctors to keep the practice going at the present site were not successful. The practice will take its last appointments on 28 May. Dr Lynn Williams will be moving to the Willoughby Medical Practice, Dr David Storrs to Artarmon Medical Centre, and Dr David Hu to a practice closer to his home in southern Sydney.
Mansour Paving began the upgrade at the corner of Hampden and McMillan roads in late April. Part closures of the roadways, footpath and kerbside parking are in place in addition to the construction of a traffic calming device. Work will take place at night but noise will be minimised as much as possible.
Artarmon Village Inc has sent a second letter to Willoughby City Council about its proposal to redevelop the Artarmon shopping precinct. After a much-appreciated and courteous visit from the mayor, Gail Giles-Gidney, and council officers in March, the response from the council was seen as wanting. The letter emphasised the importance of making changes to the draft plan to increase the customer experience and boost local business traffic.
Artarmon Village hosted an evening networking function for the business community at Zucchero Caffe Bar at 104 Hampden Road on 11 May 2021 where the Artarmon Village upgrade plans were also discussed. Thanks go to Valerio Domenici for hosting this important and enjoyable gathering.
