September 2021
Artarmon Village Inc is your local shopping precinct’s chamber of commerce, representing retailers and businesses. We provide a voice to Willoughby City Council and other authorities on matters to enable your shops to provide even better services, products and facilities.
Congratulations to our local florist Celine and her husband Peter on the birth of their baby daughter Geneva in July. All are doing well!
Commonwealth Bank has disappointed the community by closing its branch and removing the ATMs. Artarmon Village Inc has written to the chief executive Matt Comyn and is awaiting a reply.
Brothers Rajesh and Omkar are the new owners of Maiya Indian and Nepali Curry House at 126 Hampden Road. Both are experienced chefs. They plan to continue the current popular menu but also introduce Nepalese street food. We wish former owner Shayam well.
We are disappointed that Willoughby City Council’s new kerbs have taken away two parking spaces in Francis Road and three in Elizabeth Street. Artarmon Village Inc will raise this issue with the Council’s chief executive, Debra Just.
Our southernmost shop is to be Wash Haus, a self-service laundromat at 44 Hampden Road near Pizza Luna. Hi-tech, eco-friendly washers and dryers will be available daily from 7am until 11pm. Welcome to Kirsten and her team.
The lockdown in July and August has been a heavy blow to local businesses. Several of our retailers have had to close, at least temporarily, due to the lack of trade. We thank our wonderful customers for supporting local businesses, where possible.
Thanks go to Willoughby City Council for plans to replace the Loading Zone parking restrictions in Francis Road alongside Liquorland with a 15-minute zone from 8am to 2pm Monday to Friday.
Artarmon Village will host an evening networking function at Valerio Domenici’s Zucchero Caffe Bar at 104 Hampden Road on 17 November (to be confirmed). Do join us as we optimistically discuss 2022 being a much better year for residents and businesses.
Are there residents who would like to get involved in our committee or some of the projects we have in mind? If you are a retiree with time on your hands or perhaps a university student who wishes to add to their CV, let us know. Some of our ideas for projects involve social media and economic analysis. New ideas welcome! Follow us on Facebook: @artarmonvillage for local offers and events. Feedback from Artarmon residents and shoppers is important. We’d love to know what our supportive customers think of any local retailing matter – positive and negative. Your comments are most welcome at artarmonvillage@gmail.com
